MINORITY DEMANDS ACCOUNTABILITY ON FREE SHS  TABLETS  PAYMENT.

Minority on the education committee is demanding accountability on the number of tablets shared by the education ministry.

Addressing the media on Thursday, 22nd August 2024, the ranking member  Mr Peter Kwasi  Nortsu- Kotoe, who is also the member of parliament for  Akatsi North accused  the government and the education ministry for refusing to pay the tablet supplier.

He revealed that about one million three hundred and fifty thousand tablets were procured through a loan by the  supplier.

" he has been denied payment for a long time, and I don't know why the government is refusing to pay."

He said their concern as a committee is the reason why the government is refusing to pay for the tablet as their actions seem to collapse the business of the supplier.

They also demanded accountability for the number of schools and students who have received the tablets.

They called on the government to stop bragging about the tablets they claim to have shared to some Senior High Secondary schools and pay the supplier of the gadgets

Reacting to the education policies in the New Patriotic Party's manifesto, which was launched last Saturday in Takoradi, he emphatically refute claims of payment made to  WAEC.

Mr Nortsu- Kotoe explained that WAEC has prosponed marking BECE scripts from August to September because they don't have the funds to coordinate.

"As we speak now, WAEC has to prosponed the marking BECE scripts from this month to September. They still owe WAEC for the BECE, " he lamented.

He said this would disrupt the academic calendar. Students may go to school somewhere in December 2024.

The deputy ranking for the committee, Mr Clement Apaak, adding his voice, asked the government why they make false claims.

The Builsa South Mp mentioned that the NPP government  will leave a huge debt in the education sector.

He further stated that the government owes food items, sports apparel, and stationery suppliers.

According to him, the government must fulfil his obligations and needs to be honest and truthful to all these suppliers.

He concluded that it is their responsibility to draw the attention of a government who can give away about twelve million dollars to a contractor for no work done(pwalugu dam) to do the needful.
