*MP Kojo Oppong Nkrumah Sounds Alarm on Worsening Youth Unemployment, Questions Govt Job Programs* Ofoase-Ayirebi MP Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has cautioned that Ghana’s youth unemployment crisis is deepening, citing new Ghana Statistical Service data and questioning the effectiveness of government’s flagship job initiatives. Addressing Parliament in a statement on youth unemployment, Oppong Nkrumah said the issue is no longer “a general problem with a youth dimension” but “a youth problem” that is getting worse. Quoting GSS Quarterly Labour Force Statistics, the MP noted that unemployment among Ghanaians aged 15 to 24 rose from 32% in December 2024 to 32.5% by 3 2025. In Greater Accra, the figure hit 49.3% in 3 2025: nearly one in two young people in the capital unemployed. Seven out of every ten unemployed Ghanaians are under 35, he added. According to him, the GSS classifies 1.34 million youth aged 15-24 as not in Education, Employment, or Training. Under the National

Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah has urged Parliament and the public to take decisive action to end child abuse, citing a series of recent cases reported from different parts of the country. Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Hon. Minority Demands Accountability Over World Cup Ticket Allocation and Visa Sponsorships The Minority in Parliament has called on the Ministry of Youth and Sports to provide a full account of ticket allocations, visa sponsorships, and corporate donations related to Ghana's participation in the upcoming global football tournament. Addressing journalists in Parliament, the Minority expressed concern over what it described as a lack of transparency and fairness in the management of travel arrangements and sponsorship opportunities ahead of the tournament, which begins in two days. Ghana's national team, the Black Stars, is scheduled to play its opening match on June 17. According to the Minority, opposition Members of Parliament have allegedly been excluded from the allocation of travel slots despite Parliament's composition of 276 members. MP Rejects Criminalization of Free Speech, Calls for Civil Remedies in Defamation Cases The Member of Parliament for Damongo, Hon. Samuel Abdulai Jinapor, has strongly criticized what he describes as the increasing use of the state's criminal justice system to target citizens and political activists for exercising their constitutional right to free speech. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday 9th June, 2026 following recent parliamentary proceedings, the lawmaker aligned himself with concerns previously raised by the Minority Leader, Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, and Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin regarding what they view as the growing suppression of free expression in the country. Hon. Abudulai Jinapor stressed that freedom of speech is a fundamental human right protected under Article 21 of Ghana's Constitution and warned against actions that could undermine the democratic gains achieved over the past two decades. "It is important for us to point out, and do so clearly and for

*Minority Leader Warns of “Suffocating” Democracy After Arrests of NPP Members* Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has issued a stern warning to government over recent arrests of opposition New Patriotic Party members, saying the crackdown threatens free speech, civil liberties and Ghana’s reputation as a democratic model in Africa. Making a statement in the House on Tuesday,June 9 2026, Mr Afenyo-Markin framed the issue as bigger than partisan politics. “Ghana was built by men and women who believed that truth must be free to speak, that power must be free to be questioned,” he said. “What is happening in this country today goes beyond partisan politics. It is a question etched into the conscience of the nation itself.” The Effutu MP cited Article 21(1)(a) of the Constitution, which guarantees freedom of expression. He argued that recent arrests have created “anxiety” among citizens who now calculate “whether speaking is safe” before criticizing government. “A

NDPC Calls for Long-Term Development Plan Beyond Political Manifestos Development planning expert Dr. Thompson has called for a shift from politically driven development agendas to a long-term national development framework that transcends electoral cycles and partisan interests. Speaking on the country's development challenges, Dr. Thompson stressed that political manifestos are primarily political documents and should not be mistaken for comprehensive blueprints for national growth. According to him, Ghana can no longer afford to base its development agenda on short-term four-year plans linked to election cycles. He argued that the country needs a strategic long-term vision that clearly defines its future aspirations while addressing structural weaknesses that have hindered sustainable development over the years. Dr. Thompson highlighted significant regional and socioeconomic disparities across the country, noting that population growth and economic opportunities remain heavily co

*Ghana Speaker Bagin Hosts 4th African Inter-Parliamentary Conference, Urges Continent to Defend Family + Sovereignty* Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, today opened the 4th African Inter-Parliamentary Conference on Family, Sovereignty, and Values with a call for African nations to anchor laws in cultural heritage while rejecting external pressure on domestic legislation. Speaking at the gathering of Speakers, MPs, diplomats and traditional leaders, Bagbin framed the family as “the smallest unit of governance on Earth” and the foundation of true sovereignty. “True sovereignty does not begin at our national borders or within legislative chambers; it is born, nurtured, and sustained in the African family,” he said. Rt Hon Speaker, Alban Bagbin warned that tying development assistance, trade deals, or resource agreements to legal changes “violates the principle of sovereign equality enshrined in the UN Charter. He argued African parliaments

“Less PR, more delivery” - Abu Jinapor urges focus on logistics as 1,500+ Ghanaians remain stranded in SA evacuation* The member of parliament for Damongo, Mr Abu Jinapor has praised Ghana’s first evacuation flight of three hundred (300) citizens from South Africa but warned against early celebrations. According to him, a thousand five hundred (1,500) Ghanaians have registered to return but are “stranded” after registration was suspended. “300 down, 1500+ to go.
