Haruna Iddrisu Outlines New Measures to Improve Teacher Retention in Rural Areas The Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has outlined a series of policy measures aimed at improving teacher welfare, motivation, and retention, particularly in rural and underserved communities across Ghana. Speaking in Parliament, the Minister said the initiatives form part of the government's broader strategy to attract and retain qualified teachers in areas that have long struggled with staffing shortages. Among the key interventions is the reduction in the service period required for teachers in deprived areas to qualify for paid study leave. Under the revised policy, teachers serving in such communities will now be eligible for study leave with pay after completing two years of service instead of the previous three years. Hon. Iddrisu also disclosed that the government is working to introduce a 20 percent rural posting allowance for teachers serving in deprived communities. He explained t

Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, has called for urgent public health interventions and stronger economic protection for market women following recent flooding, warning that the aftermath of such disasters extends far beyond the immediate loss of lives and property. Speaking in Parliament, Hon. Ibrahimah said while national attention often focuses on the destruction caused by floods, the long-term public health and economic consequences are frequently overlooked. *Weija Gbawe MP Calls for Better Finance, Digitalization, and Literacy to Strengthen Ghana’s MSMEs* Hon. *‘Ghana Can Now Use Benin’s Airspace Freely’ – Minister Nikpe After Parliament Ratifies Air Services Agreement* Minister of Transport, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, says Ghana’s ratification of Bilateral Air Services Agreements will allow the country to freely use the airspace of partner countries without further negotiations. Explaining the practical benefit, Hon. Nikpe noted: “This will now allow us to use the various airspace of the countries that are signing agreements. For instance, we and Benin, that was the first one we ratified. We can now have an agreement that allows us to use their airspace without any trouble. “You know you have to have an agreement with the connected country before you can use their airspace. And even if you’re flying over a country, you need permission. But if you have these treaties or conventions ratified by Parliament, you can just notify that you are using the airspace, and you don’t need to go for any further agreement.” He added that the ratific

Moving the motion, Majority Leader Hon. Mahama Ayariga urged the House to approve the agreement, noting that it signals growing global confidence in Ghana’s aviation sector. He was particularly impressed by Ghana’s move to enter into a similar agreement with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. “Every year we send several thousands of pilgrims to Saudi Arabia. This has been going on for a very long time, so it is time that we have a direct air travel agreement with them to open up our skies and make it easily accessible for airlines from both countries,” he said. Hon. Ayariga added that the number of bilateral a

Minority Demands Full Accountability for Proposed GH¢300 Million Flood Relief Fund The Parliamentary Minority, led by Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has pledged its support for emergency government assistance to victims of the recent floods but insists that every cedi of the proposed GH¢300 million flood relief fund must be fully accounted for. Addressing a press briefing, Hon. Afenyo-Markin stated that while the Minority welcomes efforts to provide relief to affected communities, emergency financial assistance cannot replace the comprehensive flood prevention and disaster mitigation measures that the government promised but failed to implement. He argued that expressions of sympathy and aerial assessments of flood-hit areas do not absolve the government of responsibility for failing to put effective drainage and flood control measures in place before the heavy rains. "Compassion for the victims of this crisis and accountability for the government that failed to prevent it a
