GOVERNMENT CRACKS DOWN ON UNAUTHORIZED BROADCASTING IN GHANA.

The Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations has issued a stern warning to unauthorized broadcasters operating across Ghana.

Acting upon the directives of the Honourable Minister, the National Communications Authority (NCA) has taken enforcement actions against six entities operating without valid frequency authorizations, in violation of Section 2(4) of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775).

The affected entities are:

1. Fire Group of Companies, Sunyani – 90.1MHz

2. I-Zar Consult Limited, Tamale – 89.7MHz

3. Abocannhel Media Group, Adidome – 105.7MHz

4. Okyemae Radio Limited, Bibiani – 99.7MHz

5. Mumen Bono Foundation, Techiman – 99.7MHz

6. Osikani Community FM, Nkrankwanta – 99.7MHz

The Ministry indicated that, these broadcasters failed to renew their authorizations and fulfilled statutory obligations and also failed to submit required documentation within the stipulated timeframe.

As a result, their authorizations lapsed, rendering their continued operations illegal under the law.

The Ministry emphasized that operating a broadcasting service without valid frequency authorization is unlawful.

The NCA has been tasked with halting of  all unauthorized transmissions and ensuring strict compliance with Act 775.

According to the ministry in a press statement, released on Tuesday 18,2025,

The Ministry is continuing its review of the frequency authorization audit and will provide further directives in due course.

However, frequency authorization holders are urged to comply strictly with the terms of their authorizations to avoid similar enforcement actions.

The enforcement measures underscore the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order in Ghana’s broadcasting industry and ensuring a level playing field for all operators.
