Transport Minister Outlines Strategy to Strengthen Commuter Bus Services Across the Country.

The Minister of Transport, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has provided an update on ongoing efforts to improve public transportation and ensure efficient movement for commuters across Ghana.

Speaking to the media, Hon. Nikpe revealed that he has re-engaged with the Managing Directors of Metro Mass Transit Limited, STC, and Intercity Coaches to review and strengthen their operations.

According to the Minister, several buses have already been reintroduced on key routes, and the Ministry is closely monitoring daily operations to determine whether additional vehicles are required to meet commuter demand. “We are assessing daily movements and, based on the results, we will add more buses where necessary to ensure smooth and reliable service for our passengers,” Hon. Nikpe stated.

He further noted that the Ministry is exploring collaboration with the private sector to bring in more buses, especially to serve workers during morning and evening peak hours. Some buses that had previously been inactive have already been recalled to resume operations, allowing the Ministry to study current demand on the ground.

Hon. Nikpe emphasized that these measures aim to balance efficiency with availability, ensuring that both public and private bus services are optimized to meet the transportation needs of commuters across the country. The Ministry will continue to evaluate the situation and adjust services as necessary to maintain a reliable and accessible public transportation system.
