The Minority in Parliament is urging President John Dramani Mahama to sack Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, citing his alleged incompetence and failure to effectively manage Ghana's international relations.

 

 Specifically, they're pointing to the recent US visa freeze affecting Ghanaians as a sign of Ablakwa's diplomatic failures.

 

He called for a full accounting of remittance projections and a detailed economic impact assessment of the visa freeze, stressing that the policy could have serious consequences for millions of Ghanaian families who depend on remittances from abroad. 

 

Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh, Deputy Ranking Member of Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, addressing the media on 20th January 2026, he stated that Ghana's reputation is suffering under Ablakwa's leadership, with the country now listed as a 'migration risk' by the US.

 

 The Minority is demanding a comprehensive press conference within seven days to address communications between Ghana and the US on migration, deportation, and visa issues including visa processing over the past 18 months.
