Speaker Bagbin Opens Second Session of Ninth Parliament, Calls for Unity and Discipline. The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has called on Members of Parliament to rise above partisanship and work collectively to advance national development and improve the lives of Ghanaians. The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has called on Members of Parliament to rise above partisanship and work collectively to advance national development and improve the lives of Ghanaians.

 

 He made this appeal in his welcome remarks at the opening of the First Meeting of the Second Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

 

The Speaker reflected on the First Session, which tested the endurance, discipline, and commitment of Parliament, and noted that the past year was marked by moments of deep sorrow and grief, including the passing of three distinguished colleagues Hon Murtala Mohammed member of parliament for Tamale Central, Hon Ernest Yaw Kumi member of parliament for Akwatia and Ayawaso East MP Hon Naser Toure Mahama.

 

 He urged Members to uphold compassion, solidarity, and mutual support in their deliberations.

 

The Second Session presents a demanding legislative and oversight agenda, and Speaker Bagbin called on Members to strengthen cooperation, build consensus, and sustain public trust and confidence in Parliament through disciplined and transparent conduct.

 

The Meeting is scheduled to recess on March 27, 2026.
