Parliament Backs National General Cleaning Exercise Following Deadly Floods.

Parliament has expressed its full support for President John Dramani Mahama's declaration of Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11, 2026, as National General Cleaning Days in regions affected by the recent floods.

The exercise follows the devastating floods of June 29, 2026, which claimed lives, displaced families, destroyed homes and businesses, and caused extensive damage to public infrastructure. Speaking in Parliament, members described the initiative as a timely national response aimed at restoring affected communities while reducing the risk of future flooding.

They emphasized that environmental sanitation is not only a public health issue but also a matter of national resilience, public safety, environmental protection, and responsible citizenship.

Parliament further noted that the recent floods highlighted the persistent problems of choked drains, indiscriminate disposal of waste, and encroachment on waterways, calling for greater public cooperation and stricter enforcement of planning and sanitation regulations to prevent similar disasters.
