*Gov’t Contains Monkeypox Outbreak - No New Cases Recorded Since June 2, Health Minister Tells Parliament*  

Government has successfully contained the monkeypox outbreak in the country, with no new cases recorded since June 2, 2025, the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has said.  

Hon. Akandoh disclosed this when he appeared before Parliament’s Government Assurance Committee to account for commitments made by the Ministry of Health.

The Minister said the Ministry secured and administered about 33,000 doses of monkeypox vaccines in targeted regions to halt the spread of the disease.  

“Communication and we have been able to I mean contain monkeypox and I'm happy to tell the committee that for the past one month we've not recorded any case. We secured about thirty-three thousand and then they were administered in the targeted regions including Ashanti region, Western region and then the Central region,” he stated.

Hon. Akandoh assured the Committee that the outbreak is under control.  

“And so as I speak to you now I can confidently say that we've not recorded any new case of monkeypox since second of June,” he said.

He added that surveillance and public education in the affected regions will continue to prevent a resurgence.

The Government Assurance Committee said it will continue to monitor the health sector to ensure all assurances are fulfilled.

Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has confirmed that 8 people lost their lives during the recent monkeypox outbreak in Ghana.  

He made the disclosure when he appeared before Parliament’s Government Assurance Committee to update the Committee on the outbreak and government’s response.

Hon. Akandoh said all 8 persons who died had other underlying health conditions.  

“Yes so we lost about eight lives but then they had other underlying co-mobilities, other conditions. Somebody maybe hypertensive or diabetic... and so we lost eight lives,” he stated.
