2026 Mid-Year Budget Outperforms Targets, Signals Strong Economic Recovery – Finance Minister

Ghana's economy has outperformed its mid-year targets for 2026, with stronger-than-expected growth, lower inflation, improved fiscal performance, and a faster decline in public debt, according to Finance Minister Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.

Presenting the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review in Parliament, Dr. Forson said the country's economic performance during the first half of the year demonstrates that the government's recovery strategy is delivering results and restoring confidence in the economy.

He reported that economic growth exceeded the targets set at the beginning of the year, while inflation fell below the projected range, declining to 5.3% as of June 2026.

The Minister also announced that Ghana recorded a commitment-basis primary surplus of 0.9% of GDP by the end of June, outperforming the programmed fiscal target.

Dr. Forson further noted that Ghana's debt trajectory is improving faster than initially anticipated, reflecting the impact of prudent fiscal management and continued economic reforms.

Highlighting the impact of the recovery on ordinary Ghanaians, the Finance Minister said market traders are benefiting from stronger purchasing power as inflation declines, entrepreneurs are gaining access to lower borrowing costs to support business expansion, and workers are enjoying greater income stability as the Ghana cedi remains relatively stable.

He stressed that the positive outcomes are not merely reflected in economic statistics but are translating into tangible improvements in the lives of citizens and businesses.

According to Dr. Forson, the government's disciplined implementation of sound economic policies has restored macroeconomic stability, strengthened fiscal management, and rebuilt investor confidence. He added that the institutional reforms introduced will help protect these gains and keep Ghana on course to achieve its end-of-year economic objectives.
