*GOVERNMENT PAYS GH¢48.8BN IN COMPENSATION, GH¢10BN TO DOMESTIC BOND HOLDERS, $700M FOR EUROBOND DEBT SERVICE*
Government has paid out *GH¢48.8 billion* for compensation of public sector workers and *GH¢10 billion* to domestic bond holders so far in 2026, as part of efforts to meet key obligations approved in the 2026 Budget.
The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, disclosed this while presenting the *Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review of the 2026 Budget* in Parliament on Thursday, July 23, 2026.
"In the spirit of transparency and accountability allow me to live before this house a clear account of some of the expenditure we have made so far to support government program across the sectors approved in the twenty twenty-six budget," he stated.
On public sector pay, Dr. Forson gave a breakdown of the compensation bill.
"Mr speaker, first to compensate public sector workers an amount of 4.8 billion Ghana cities for compensation of employees has been paid including 4 billion Ghana cities as contribution to senate and 2billion Ghana cities as tier two pension scheme," he said.
The government has also honed its debt obligations both domestic and external.
"Mr speaker to honor our debt obligation an amount of 2.5billion for interest has been paid.
To honor our international debt obligation an amount of 7hundred million dollars for euro bond debt service and interest have also been paid.
To restore confidence on our financial systems an amount of 10 billion Ghana cities to domestic bond orders has been paid," Dr. Forson told the House.
On decentralization and social protection, he said:
"Mr speaker to deepen fiscal decentralization an amount of four point 4billion cities to the district assembly's common fund representing the first two quarters of the year has been paid.
Mr speaker to keep the National Health Insurance Scheme strong and vibrant an amount of 4.5 billion Ghana cities has been paid.
Government has released over *GH¢10.7 billion* in the first six months of 2026 to fund education, road maintenance, youth employment and the petroleum sector, as part of budget execution under the Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review.
The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, presented the figures in Parliament on Thursday, July 23, 2026.
"An amount of 4.2 billion Ghana cities for the first six months of the year to the Ghana Education Trust Fund gets funded has been paid," he stated.
To support secondary education, Dr. Forson said government has also paid out significant funds.
"Right honourable speaker to strengthen free secondary education program and ease the burden on families and an amount of 1.8billion cities to the free secondary education program has been paid," he told the House.
On infrastructure, the Minister noted spending on road maintenance.
"Right honourable speaker to improve road maintenance an amount of 1.7billion Ghana cities to the road maintenance trust fund has been paid," he said.
Government has also disbursed funds for job creation and the energy sector.
"Mr speaker to support job creation for young people an amount of four hundred and 59million Ghana cities to the youth employment agency has been paid.
Mr speaker again to support petroleum sector an amount of the of 961million Ghana cities to the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation has been paid,"* Dr. Forson stated.
