*Asante Akyem North MP Still In Dutch Custody After Bail Denied - Dafeamekpor Confirms*

The Majority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Hon. Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has provided an update on the case of the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Kwame Ohene Frimpong, popularly known as OK Frimpong, who was arrested and detained at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam.

Speaking to at the press meeting with leadership, Hon. Dafeamekpor disclosed that the embattled MP remains in the custody of the Dutch government in Amsterdam after two bail applications were rejected.

"He is still in custody. He's still in the hands of the Dutch government in Amsterdam. We have done two applications, one substantive, one appeal for his bail, but they all got refused," he stated.

The MP was arrested by Dutch authorities at Schiphol Airport on May 10, 2026, upon arrival from Ghana on KLM Flight 590. Parliament subsequently confirmed his detention on May 12 and said it was engaging Ghana's Mission in The Hague.

According to Dafeamekpor, Parliament is now preparing for the substantive extradition hearing.

"The extradition hearing will take place on the 18th of November 2026," he confirmed. The hearing, set for 11:00 AM in Haarlem, Netherlands, will determine whether the legislator will be extradited to the United States.

The arrest followed an extradition request from the United States. Reports link the case to broader allegations of romance scams, fraud and money laundering involving about $32 million, with a warrant issued by a magistrate court in Illinois. The allegations remain unproven and have not been tested in court.
