GSA, NRCD 254(1974) BILL AMENDED AFTER 50 YEARS.
Parliament has passed the Ghana Shippers' Authority Bill, 2024 , into law following its successful third reading on the floor of the house.
Speaking to the press, the Director of Business Development and Commercial Services for Ghana's Shippers Authority has stated that the law that amends the fifty years old establishment law of GSA, NRCD 254(1974) will regulate commercial activities of shippers and will primarily address the issue of unfair and excessive charges that burdens traders.
He added that traders who use the Ghana's Sea and airports as well as land borders to ply their international trade.
He emphasised that the new bill will introduce transparency in the determination of ports fees and charges and will by that ensure better accountability in the legal movement of international trade cargo across all of the borders of Ghana.
He said the law will help them address all the challengings they face at the port.
The law seeks to aim Ghana a preferred transit trade route for her landlocked neighbours, Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.
He explained that the law will enhance the sector's revenue contribution to the national purse.
