Minority Demands Energy Minister Appear Before Parliament Over Recurring Power Outages

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has accused the government of ignoring clear warning signs that pointed to Ghana’s worsening power instability crisis.

According to the caucus, incidents such as the fire outbreak at the Akosombo power control center and the suspension of the GRIDCo Chief Executive Officer, both raised in April, were strong indications of deeper challenges within the energy sector. However, they argued that these concerns were not treated with the urgency they deserved.

The opposition maintained that the government’s failure to act promptly has resulted in renewed power outages, leaving many Ghanaians in darkness once again. As part of its demands, the caucus has called on the Minister for Energy to personally appear before Parliament to address the situation.

The Minority further insisted that the Minister must present a credible, properly costed, and time-bound plan aimed at permanently ending load shedding, commonly known as “dumsor.”

They stressed that issuing press statements alone is inadequate, emphasizing that Parliament and the Ghanaian public deserve a clear and actionable strategy that government can be held accountable for.
