SPEAKER IS SETTING THE COUNTRY ON FIRE- MAJORITY LEADER
The Majority NPP caucus in parliament has raised some conduct by the speaker of parliament.
Speaking to the press after the Speaker of parliament Rt Hon Alban Sumana Bagbin adjourn the house indefinitely on 7th November 2024, Mr Alexander Kwamena Afenyo Markin stated that in a pre sitting meeting after Supreme Court had stated it's ruling, the speaker mentioned that he has not declared the NDC as Majority.
He added that, according to the speaker, what he did was an opinion that he expressed by the statement of minority leader Mr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson.
Mr Afenyo Markin said after some clarification from the clerk, the majority caucus had their name tags on the right hand side of the speaker.
"So obviously, one was expecting the speaker to direct the NDC to do the right thing, he refused"
He added that after a meeting with the peace council, council of elders and some prominent people in the country, Mr Speaker assured that he has not made any pronouncement that the Minority is the new Majority in parliament.
He accused the NDC for treading on a war path which is being supervised by the speaker.
"The NDC clearly are on a war path, they want confusion and lawlessness in this country and all these are being supervised by the speaker"
He cited that, the speaker had assured him in the presence of the second deputy speaker Mr Andrew Amoako Asiamah that in view of the pendency of the matter at the supreme Court, he would wait and abide by the decision of the court.
The member of parliament for Effutu explained that, he engaged the speaker when Mr Haruna Iddrisu had raised the issue of declaring the four members of the parliament seat vacant.
He said going to the supreme court was in good faith to clear all confusion regarding the matter.
He rhetorically questions that when in the history of parliament made a statement metamorphose into a motion.
"Why did they set aside Mr Haruna Iddrisu's statement? Haruna Iddrisu had come under order 99 of our rules how did they suddenly come under order 93 of our rules"
He accused the speaker for setting the country on Fire.
