SUPREME COURT RULING WILL BOOST OUR DEMOCRACY
The majority chief whip Mr Frank Annoh Dompreh has praised the recent ruling by the Supreme Court which has over turned the ruling by the speaker of parliament Alban Sumana Bagbin on his decision to pronounce four parliamentary seats vacant.
Addressing the press, Mr Annoh Dompreh emphasized that the judgement by the court will reinforce the principles of the separation of powers in Ghana’s government.
The ruling by the Supreme Court delivered by a considered majority of 5-2 .
According to the member of parliament for Nsawam Adoakyire, Mr Dompreh added that is a day of victory for the majority caucus and the country.
He said it will be strange for the minority caucus and the speaker to disrespect the Supreme Court ruling.
He hailed the majority leader Mr Alexander Kwamena Afenyo Markin for his tremendous leadership.
However in a press statement released by the majority caucus, democracy becomes stronger when we respect the wisdom of our constitution and the interpretation of its guardians.
Mr Alexander Afenyo Markin stated that he went to the Supreme Court to sought clarity on Article 97(1)(g) and (h) of the 1992 constitution.
He added that the constitutional question is clear and binding which does not grant the speaker the power to declare parliamentary seats vacant.
