ACCENT TO ANTI GAY BILL-JOURNALISTS TO PREZ NANA ADDO
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Journalists Against LGBTQ+ - Ghana Urges President Akufo-Addo to Assent to Anti-LGBTQ+ Act
Accra, Ghana - December 18, 2024
We, Journalists Against LGBTQ+ - Ghana, are urging President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to assent to the Anti-LGBTQ+ Act without delay.
This call follows the Supreme Court's unanimous ruling, dismissing Richard Dela Sky's petition challenging the constitutionality of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill. Given the President's previous statement that he would sign the bill if the majority of Ghanaians wanted him to do so, we believe the Supreme Court's ruling has cleared the way for his assent.
The Anti-LGBTQ+ Act aims to promote proper human sexual rights and Ghanaian family values, a crucial step towards upholding the moral fabric of our society. We commend the Supreme Court for its wise decision and urge President Akufo-Addo to follow suit by assenting to the bill, demonstrating his commitment to upholding the values and principles that our nation holds dear.
The Anti-LGBTQ+ Act is essential for protecting the rights and dignity of all Ghanaians, particularly children and families. We hope President Akufo-Addo will take prompt action to assent to the bill, ensuring our nation continues to uphold the highest moral standards.
Mr. President, now that the Supreme Court has ruled, the ball is in your court. We urge you not to fail Ghanaians. Assent to this Act and redeem your image after the recent election.
Signed,
Isaac Boamah Darko
