POLICE RESTORE CALM, LAW AND ORDER AT NKWANTA AND ITS ENVIRONS IN THE OTI REGION
The Ghana Police Service has restored calm, law and order at Nkwanta and its environs in the Oti Region with the deployment of reinforcement teams to support the Regional Command. The Police are being supported by the Military.
This follows renewed communal-related disturbances in the area which has so far resulted in the death of five persons and injury to five others. Eight buildings and one shop have also been destroyed.
The five injured victims are currently receiving medical care while the bodies of the five deceased have been deposited at the morgue.
The Inspector-General of Police has spoken to the three chiefs in the area over the telephone and appealed to them to partner with the security agencies to maintain security, law and order in the community.
Meanwhile, the Oti Regional Police Commander is also in the area engaging the chiefs, opinion leaders, and community members as part of our peace-building activities as investigations into the incident continue.
We want to assure the public, particularly the people in Nkwanta and its environs, that the Police and the Military will continue to work together to ensure peace and security are maintained in the communities.
