The Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoakyir, Hon. Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has emphasized the need for sustainable urban development in Ghana, highlighting the importance of balancing economic growth with ecological wisdom and social justice.

 

 

Making a statement on the floor of parliament, he  said Ghana's rapid urbanization has outpaced infrastructure development, governance systems, and environmental management capacity.

 

 The MP urges the need for sustainable cities that prioritize social justice, economic viability, and environmental soundness.

 

The legislature recommends passing and operationalizing the National Urban Policy, supporting the Ghana Green Cities Initiative, and strengthening collaboration between Parliament, academia, and metropolitan assemblies.

 

"Sustainable urban development is no longer an abstract academic concept; it is a moral, economic, and environmental imperative for our nation's survival and dignity."

 

 

"If we build without conscience, we will inherit congestion, pollution, and despair. But if we build with foresight, inclusiveness, and stewardship, we will bequeath to posterity cities that breathe, heal, and inspire." He lamented.

 

The Minority Chief whip statement highlights the need for a new urban covenant that balances economy with ecology, technology with humanity, and development with justice.
