Suhum MP Raises Alarm Over illegal Mining in Asuansi and Densu River The Member of Parliament for the Suhum Constituency, Hon. Frank Asiedu Bekoe, has raised concerns over illegal mining activities allegedly destroying cocoa farms and threatening water bodies within his constituency. Speaking on the issue, Hon. Asiedu Bekoe said he received information about irresponsible mining activities at Asuansi, an area within the Suhum Constituency, and subsequently visited the affected site to verify the situation firsthand. According to him, cocoa trees have been destroyed to pave the way for mining activities, with illegal miners operating dangerously in Asuansi and the Densu River catchment area. Suhum MP Raises Alarm Over illegal Mining in Asuansi and Densu River

 

 

The Member of Parliament for the Suhum Constituency, Hon. Frank Asiedu Bekoe, has raised concerns over illegal mining activities allegedly destroying cocoa farms and threatening water bodies within his constituency.

 

Speaking on the issue, Hon. Asiedu Bekoe said he received information about irresponsible mining activities at Asuansi, an area within the Suhum Constituency, and subsequently visited the affected site to verify the situation firsthand.

 

According to him, cocoa trees have been destroyed to pave the way for mining activities, with illegal miners operating dangerously in Asuansi and the Densu River catchment area.

 

The Suhum MP said his visit confirmed the reports, stressing that the situation poses a serious threat to the environment, cocoa production and the sustainability of the affected water bodies.

 

Hon. Asiedu Bekoe further disclosed that he had contacted the Municipal/District Chief Executive (MCE/DCE) to report the situation and called for immediate intervention.

 

He said the MCE/DCE had subsequently planned to visit the affected area together with the District Police Commander to inspect the site and take steps to stop the illegal mining activities.

 

The MP called for urgent enforcement measures to protect the community's cocoa farms and water resources from further destruction.
