Speaker Rebukes Walewale MP Over ‘Rude’ Remark on Parliament Recall The Speaker of Parliament has expressed concern over comments made by the Member of Parliament for Walewale, Dr. Abdul-Kabiru Tia Mahama, following the emergency recall of Parliament in August. The Speaker said Dr. Tia Mahama was within his rights to criticise the decision to recall Parliament and to question whether the business before the House justified interrupting Members’ constituency engagements. He also acknowledged the MP’s right to disagree with the manner in which the emergency proceedings were conducted. However, the Speaker said his concern was not with the substance of the MP’s criticism, but with the language used during a press engagement. Speaker Rebukes Walewale MP Over ‘Rude’ Remark on Parliament Recall

The Speaker of Parliament has expressed concern over comments made by the Member of Parliament for Walewale, Dr. Abdul-Kabiru Tia Mahama, following the emergency recall of Parliament in August.

The Speaker said Dr. Tia Mahama was within his rights to criticise the decision to recall Parliament and to question whether the business before the House justified interrupting Members’ constituency engagements.

He also acknowledged the MP’s right to disagree with the manner in which the emergency proceedings were conducted.

However, the Speaker said his concern was not with the substance of the MP’s criticism, but with the language used during a press engagement.

According to the Speaker, Dr. Tia Mahama accused him of having “rudely” recalled Members of Parliament from their constituencies.

The Speaker said such language was inappropriate and stressed that the issue before him was the manner in which the criticism was expressed.

Walewale MP Retracts Controversial Word, Apologises to Speaker and Parliament The Member of Parliament for Walewale, Dr. Abdul-Kabiru Tia Mahama, has withdrawn a word used during a previous press conference and apologised unreservedly to the Speaker and the House.
