Weija Gbawe MP Demands Government Intervention to Save NHIS from Total Collapse. The Member of Parliament for Weija Gbawe Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Mr Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has expressed deep concern over the deteriorating state of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), stating that the scheme is no longer functioning effectively. According to him, patients across the country are increasingly being compelled to pay for healthcare services out of pocket, a situation that signals a troubling return to the cash-and-carry system the NHIS was designed to replace. Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Mr. Shaib lamented that even pregnant women undergoing Caesarean Sections (CS) are being charged exorbitant fees ranging from ₵5,000 to ₵9,000, which he described as unacceptable. Majority Leader Raises Concern Over NHIA Software Dispute The Majority Leader of Parliament, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, has addressed the House on the ongoing challenges within the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA). Speaking on the floor of Parliament, he stated that the House could summon the Minister for Health to provide a detailed briefing on the situation. He disclosed that he had been informed of a technical challenge involving two software systems currently in use by the NHIA, which has sparked a dispute between the software providers over which system should be adopted. Hon. Ayariga explained that the disagreement has slowed down the submission and processing of claims from health facilities. However, he noted that the Chief Executive Officer of the NHIA has assured him that the matter is being resolved. He further stressed that the challenge is not related to any delay in government funding. According to him, government has released the required funds to the NHIA, and

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Tribute Statement by Victor Emmanuel Smith On the Passing of Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings Date: 23/10/25 I received with deep sadness the news of the passing of Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, former First Lady of the Republic of Ghana and a towering figure in our nation’s political development. Awakened far away in Iowa with this heartbreaking news, I had hoped it was inaccurate. However, after the confirmation, I was left with a profound sense of personal loss. Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings introduced me into active politics in the early 1990s. Upon my return from the United Kingdom in 1994, she offered me the opportunity and space to begin my journey in public service. I remain eternally grateful for the belief she had in my potential and for the pivotal role she played in shaping my political life. Like many meaningful relationships, ours experienced its challenges over time. But today, I choose to remember her for the significant impact she made — on me,
