MINORITY CALLS FOR SUSPENSION OF GOLDBOD  CEO OVER 'MONEY GIFT" to AGRADAA.

The Minority in Parliament is calling on President John Mahama to take decisive action against the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Mr  Sammy Gyamfi, following a viral video showing him giving out dollars to Evangelist Patricia Koranteng, widely known as Evangelist Agradaa.

The footage has sparked widespread public backlash, prompting an apology from Sammy Gyamfi.

Speaking on behalf of the minority members at a press conference in Parliament today in Accra, MP for Walewale ,

Dr Mahama Tiah Abdul-Kabiru who is also a member on the  finance committee said the minority believes the apology is insufficient and are urging amongst other things the sanctioning of Sammy Gyamfi and a full blown inquiry into the matter.

He added that the display of  financial recklessness  is not only a  betrayal of public trust but a slap in the face of millions of Ghanaians currently grappling with the devastating effects of the cedis, inflation and unbearable cost of living.

Backing their claims, Mr Tia Mahama quoted (Act 723) 3(1) and (4) of the Foreign Exchange Act,2006 and explained that penalties for such violations include a fine of up to seven hundred penalty units or a prison term of not more than eighteen months or both.

He said when a gift is received by an individual outside of employment or business, the individual is required to submit a tax return within 21 days detailing the description, value and tax payable.

The minority expects the GRA to demonstrate a commitment towards curtailing the continuous evasion of gift tax which has remained unaccounted for in their books.

They demanded  an apology from the presidency to Ghanaians.

"We will not look on while public office is desecrated and the Ghanaian people reduced to beggars in their own country.'"
