Speaker Alban Bagbin Commends Parliament’s Leadership, Urges Renewed Commitment  During Recess

The Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin through the first deputy speaker Hon. Bernard Ahiafor,  delivered his closing remarks to mark the end of the first session of the Ninth Parliament, offering commendation and guidance to Members of Parliament and parliamentary staff.

In his address to the House, Hon. Ahiafor expressed deep appreciation to the First and Second Deputy Speakers for their competence, dedication, and effective leadership in presiding over proceedings during his absence.

He also commended the leadership on both sides of the aisle for their efforts, reminding them that Parliament is not a courtroom but a political institution founded on deliberation, negotiation, and consensus building.

Hon. Ahiafor further praised the Clerk of Parliament, the Deputy Clerk, and the entire Parliamentary Service staff for their unwavering procedural rigor and technical expertise—qualities he described as the unseen pillars that uphold the daily operations of the House.

He extended heartfelt appreciation to the media, especially members of the Parliamentary Press Corps, for their diligent reporting and commitment to public information. He acknowledged the media’s vital role in promoting democratic transparency and civic engagement and pledged Parliament’s continued support to their efforts.

Hon. Ahiafor also reminded MPs that the parliamentary recess is not a vacation, but a time to return to their constituents. He urged all Members to use this period to reconnect with their communities, undertake field oversight responsibilities, and deepen parliamentary democracy.

“Embrace your responsibilities with renewed purpose and conviction,” he encouraged. “This session has shown what is possible when we work together beyond partisan interests to serve the national good.”

He concluded by urging MPs to carry forward the spirit of unity, consensus-building, and public service that defined the session. He wished them a restful break and a rejuvenated return, ready to tackle new challenges and seize opportunities for the collective benefit of all Ghanaians.

“May God bless each of you—and may God bless the Republic of Ghana,” he ended.
