UK INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT MINISTER PAYS COURTESY CALL TO GHANA'S PARLIAMENT. The Minister for International Development of United Kingdom Baroness Chapman has paid a courtesy call to Ghana's Parliament. The Rt Hon Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin speaker of parliament chaired a discussion forum which focused on the UK’s longstanding partnership with the Parliament of Ghana, as well as opportunities to deepen collaboration following the June 2025 launch of a new technical support programme funded by the UK and delivered through the World Bank. The discussions also explored opportunities for the UK-World Bank Parliamentary project to support enhanced engagement between elected officials, expert agencies and civil society, including through the Parliamentary Citizens’ Bureau. The Minister for International Development of  United Kingdom Baroness Chapman has paid a courtesy call to Ghana's Parliament. 

 

 

The Rt Hon Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin speaker of parliament chaired a discussion forum which  focused on the UK’s longstanding partnership with the Parliament of Ghana, as well as opportunities to deepen collaboration following the June 2025 launch of a new technical support programme funded by the UK and delivered through the World Bank.

 

The discussions also explored opportunities for the UK-World Bank Parliamentary project to support enhanced engagement between elected officials, expert agencies and civil society, including through the Parliamentary Citizens’ Bureau.

 

Delivering her speech, Madam Baroness Chapman acknowledged that, gender parity across parliaments globally and commended Ghana's  Democratic progress underscoring the importance of protecting democratic engagement as a means to meeting the needs of citizens.

 

She assured of UK's commitment towards supporting Ghana's efforts. 

 

Also the Rt Hon Speaker Alban Sumana Bagbin recalled that, in 2007, Ghana received critical UK support in establishing the Public Accounts Committee, which today stands as one of the most vibrant oversight committees of parliament.
