GHANA'S MINORITY CAUCUS RAISES CONCERNS OVER US DEPORTEES AGREEMENT.

Ghana's Minority Caucus in Parliament has expressed strong concerns over the country's agreement with the United States to accept third-country nationals deported from the US.

The Minority Caucus reiterates its call for the government to suspend the agreement's implementation until parliamentary ratification is obtained.

Speaking to the media, the Ranking member for the Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Mr Samuel Abu Jinapor  highlighted that the agreement breaches Article 75 of Ghana's Constitution.

He urged the government to provide clarity on the processes, safeguards, and implications of receiving these deportees.

He again reiterates its call for the government to suspend the agreement's implementation until parliamentary ratification is obtained.

The minority revealed that, the agreement could harm Ghana's reputation for principled diplomacy, rooted in non-alignment, regional solidarity, and respect for human rights.

However, the agreement, revealed by President John Dramani Mahama on September 10, 2025, has sparked controversy over its constitutionality and implications for Ghana's sovereignty and human rights reputation.

Also, Foreign Affairs Minister,  Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa defends the agreement as being grounded in humanitarian principles and Pan-African solidarity.

He emphasizes that Ghana independently vets

deportees to ensure no threats to national security.
