GHANA RISKS COMPROMISING NON-ALIGNED STANCE ON GAZA CONFLICT- MINORITY.

Ghana's Minority Caucus in Parliament has expressed concerns over the country's foreign policy stance regarding the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip.

Addressing the media on  Wednesday 24 September 2025,

The Ranking member on the foreign Affairs committee, Mr Samuel Abu Jinapor emphasized the need for consistency and balance in Ghana's pronouncements on international conflicts to maintain the country's credibility as an impartial actor.

Explaining further, guided by Article 40 of Ghana's Constitution, which includes promoting Ghana's national interests, adhering to international law, and fostering respect for international cooperation.

Tradition of Non-Alignment and Impartiality Ghana has historically maintained a posture of non-alignment, mutual respect, and peaceful co-existence, enabling the country to engage credibly with all sides in conflicts. he said.

He added that, risks of taking sides describing events in Gaza in absolute terms and aligning explicitly with one side in a polarized conflict could compromise Ghana's credibility as an impartial voice for peace and dialogue.

Context on Ghana's International Relations

Ghana has a reputation for maintaining independence, neutrality, and credibility in international relations, which has allowed the country to play a mediating or bridge-building role in conflicts.

"The government must ensure that Ghana's positions reflect our long standing commitment to non -alignment, multi lateral and principled diplomacy, rather than hasty or unilateral declaration " he lamented

However, the Honourable Minister for Foreign Affairs  Mr Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa has described the developments in Gaza as "genocide" and expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people, including through material support.
