Minority Rebut Hon. Samuel Nartey George Over DSTV Impasse.

The Minority members on Parliament's Communication and Information Committee have responded to comments made by Hon. Samuel Nartey George, Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, regarding the ongoing DSTV impasse.

In a press statement signed by Hon. Matthew Nyindam, Ranking Member of the Committee on Information and Communication on 1st October 2025, the Minority accused Hon. George of arrogance, disrespect, and pomposity.

Mr Nyindam noted that Hon. George's stance on the DSTV impasse appears to have shifted, from demanding a 30% price reduction to accepting upgrades in packages.

Demanding for Clarification, the Minority has asked Hon. Sam George to explain the reason behind this change in stance and accounts for the revenue collected from the GH¢10,000 levy imposed on DSTV since its inception.

Despite Hon. George's insults, the Minority reiterates their commitment to their duties and professionalism, stating they will not request an apology.

Background of the DSTV Impasse

The DSTV impasse began when Hon. Samuel Nartey George demanded a 30% reduction in DSTV subscription prices, citing the recent appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi and improved macroeconomic indicators. MultiChoice Ghana, the operator of DSTV, resisted the demand, citing unsustainable economic conditions and the need to maintain service quality.

The impasse has sparked a heated debate among consumers, analysts, and political opponents, with some supporting the Minister's demand for price reduction and others arguing that the government's intervention in pricing could set a precedent for other sectors.
