*Parliament to Reconsider Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill-- Speaker*

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has announced that the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, commonly known as the anti-LGBTQ+ Bill, will be reintroduced for its consideration by the Ninth Parliament.

This proposed legislation seeks to criminalize same-sex relationships, as well as the promotion, advocacy, and financial support of LGBTQ+ activities within the country.

The bill was previously passed by the Eighth Parliament but failed to become law after former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo declined to give it presidential assent.

Despite this setback, Speaker Bagbin confirmed that the bill has completed the necessary procedural steps and is ready to be tabled.

The bill aims to criminalize same-sex relationships and impose jail time for promoting or supporting LGBTQ+ activities.

If passed, the bill would increase the maximum prison sentence for same-sex sexual acts from three to five years and impose jail time for promoting or supporting LGBTQ+ activities.

The reintroduction of the bill is expected to spark renewed discussions on human rights, constitutional freedoms, and Ghana's cultural values.

While some citizens and organizations have expressed strong opposition to the bill, citing constitutional concerns, others argue that it is necessary to uphold Ghana's traditional family values.
