Speaker of Parliament Condemns Attack on Anti-Galamsey Taskforce in Asutifi North. The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has strongly condemned the recent attack by some illegal miners (Galamseyers) in the Asutifi North Constituency. Addressing Members on the floor of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Bagbin described the incident as both disturbing and unacceptable, noting that the taskforce established to combat illegal mining activities across the country faces growing resistance and danger in carrying out its duties. According to the Speaker, the attack was allegedly incited by the Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, Hon. Ebenezer Kwaku Agyemang, who reportedly acted in concert with Hon.

Collins Dauda, a senior member of the House. He therefore condemned, in no uncertain terms, the assault on the security personnel who had been deployed to enforce anti-Galamsey operations. “No one has denied that the attack took place, and we must all condemn it,” Rt. Hon. Bagbin stressed. “The people of Ghana look up to us as beacons of hope, and it is our collective duty to uphold the values and standards that reflect the integrity of our great nation.”

The Speaker further reminded Members that parliamentary privileges are not absolute, and must be exercised with responsibility and respect for the laws of Ghana. He assured the public, particularly the security agencies, of Parliament’s full cooperation in all investigations related to the incident and other matters involving Members of Parliament.
