*Committee Seeks Stakeholder Views on Lithium Agreement Amidst Concerns*

Ghana's Parliament is set to scrutinize the lithium agreement between the government and Barari DV Ghana Limited, with the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, laying the revised agreement before Parliament for ratification.

The agreement, which covers an area of 42.63 square kilometers in the Mfantseman District of the Central Region, has sparked heated debate in Parliament, with some members expressing concerns over the royalty rate and Ghana's participation in the project.

Member of Parliament for Asutifi South, Alhaji Collins Dauda, speaking on behalf of the Majority in Parliament, emphasized that the committee will review the agreement, considering stakeholder input and ensuring Ghana benefits maximally from its lithium resources.

The agreement proposes a 10% royalty rate, with Ghana holding a 13% free carried interest and additional equity participation through the Minerals Income and Investment Fund (MIIF).

However, some parliamentarian including,  former lands and natural resources Minister Samuel Abu Jinapor, have questioned the terms, arguing they favor Barari DV Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of Atlantic Lithium Limited.

According to the Lands and Natural Resources Committee Chairperson, the committee has invited stakeholders to share their views on the agreement, with a deadline for submissions set for November 27, 2025.

Alhaji Collins Dauda, emphasized that the law needs to be amended to increase the royalty rate, with 10% being the preferred option.

"The law has to be amended to up the rate from five percent to whatever percentage the minister so wishes," Dauda said.

He stated that the committee has advertised the agreement in newspapers, seeking public opinion from interested persons, CSOs, NGOs, and experts, with a deadline for submissions set for November 27, 2025.

"We are not in a hurry to pass without taking the views of the public on board," Dauda assured.

The committee will review submissions and invite experts to analyze the agreement before ratification.
