*Domestic Violence in Ghana: Fear, Stigma Silence Victims -Weija Gbawe MP Disclosed* 

Hon Jerry Ahmed Shaib, Second Deputy Minority Whip and MP for Weija Gbawe, has raised concerns about domestic violence in Ghana, citing alarming statistics.

 According to him, 40% of women and 20% of men aged 15-49 experience domestic violence, with 61.9% of women facing severe forms of abuse, and about 20% of men suffers same abuse.

He stated that, these domestic violence doesn't just come from a man beating a woman but sometimes a man even denying a woman whatever she's expected to have, including sex.

Speaking in Parliament, Hon Shaib noted that fear of stigma and punishment prevents victims from reporting cases. 

He urged parliamentarians to address this issue, reduce stigma, and ensure perpetrators are held accountable. "We should educate people on the trauma domestic violence causes and encourage reporting without fear of stigma," he said.

According to Hon Shaib, if you go to a constituency like Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, statistics shows 61.9% of women have experience the worse form of domestic violence.

Hon Shaib emphasized the need to tackle domestic violence, citing over 16,000 reported cases annually. 

He called for education and awareness to resolve the problem and support victims.
