The Minister for the Interior and Member of Parliament for the Asawase Constituency, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has clarified misconceptions circulating on social media regarding the ongoing recruitment into Ghana’s security services.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, the Minister explained that the recruitment process began in December with the aim of ensuring transparency in how applicants apply to the various security agencies.

According to him, by the time the application deadline closed, a total of 506,608 applicants—representing over half a million Ghanaians—had applied for recruitment into the security services.

Hon. Muntaka further noted that the Ministry has introduced several measures aimed at improving the screening process for applicants seeking to join agencies such as the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Prisons Service, and the Ghana Armed Forces.

He disclosed that under the current recruitment exercise, 15,000 personnel have been recruited as Police Assistants to support the Ghana Police Service. In addition, 5,000 recruits have been engaged to assist firefighters in markets under the Ghana National Fire Service, while another 5,000 recruits have been enlisted to support officers of the Ghana Prisons Service.

According to the Minister, this brings the total number of recruits under the current initiative to 25,000 personnel. He explained that the initiative is designed to give recruits practical experience while supporting the work of the security agencies. The Minister added that the programme will also enable the Ministry to assess the recruits’ character, behaviour, strengths, and weaknesses.

Hon. Muntaka assured young people that the government is creating more opportunities for employment in the security services but emphasized that one recruitment exercise alone cannot solve the country’s unemployment challenges.
