*Nkwanta North MP Calls for Shift from Flood Reaction to Prevention, Urges Stronger Sanitation Enforcement*

Hon. John Kwabena Bless Oti, Member of Parliament for Nkwanta North and Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Sanitation, Water Social and Water Resources, says all stakeholders must play their part to end Ghana’s perennial flooding.

Speaking in Parliament, Hon. Bless Oti noted that government, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, traditional authorities, the private sector, and the general public all have important roles to play.

He called on citizens to desist from dumping refuse into drains and waterways, while urging the relevant institutions to enforce sanitation and drainage laws “without fear or favour.”

“Mr. Speaker, the Committee commends the National Disaster Management Organization, the Ghana National Fire Service, security agencies, the National Ambulance Service, Assemblies, and all volunteers for their prompt response to the emergency and their support to affected communities,” he said.

According to the Chairperson, the time has come for Ghana to move “from reacting to floods after they occur to preventing them” through improved sanitation management, effective drainage maintenance, stronger institutions, and sustained public education.

Report by PKB

“Mr. Speaker, the Committee on Sanitation and Water Resources remains committed to working with all stakeholders to ensure cleaner communities, protected waterways, and a more resilient nation,” he concluded.
