TRADE MINISTER INTRODUCES BILL TO REGULATE CEMENT PRICES.
Trade Minister, Mr Kwabena Tahir Hammond has pre laid a legislation Instrument (LI)that will seek to regulate cement prices in the country.
Addressing the parliamentary press corps, Mr K.T. Hammond expressed displeasure at the rate at which cement prices are being increased.
"I am not comfortable, I don't believe we are getting good prices for our cement,"he lamented.
According to him, there is some arbitrariness in cement pricing in the country even though there are several brands in the market.
He revealed that his ministry will consider the same measures used in regulating petroleum prices in the country.
According to the Trade Minister, he will set a committee to engage the manufacturers and other stakeholders in the cement industry to bring stability and holistic pricing to the cement business.
He indicated that the committee shall also take account of all the factors necessary so that the appreciation and depreciation of the cedi will equally be considered to be able to determine the cost of materials for producing the cement in order for the committee to have reasonable drafting.
