APPOINTMENT OF CABINET SECRETARY: MINORITY SAYS MODE OF  APPOINTMENT WAS FLAWED

The Minority caucus has  raised concerns over the appointment of the Cabinet Secretary which was captured in the list of appointees to the Office of the President.

The caucus speaking through Okaikoi central lawmaker Mr  Patrick Yaw Boamah, quoted Article 76(3) which prescribes the appointment of a secretary to the cabinet thus the communication of the secretary to the cabinet ought to have been made separately  from the appointments to the office of the President.

They additionally asked questions of the appointment of a special envoy to the Alliance of Sahelian states demanding answers on Ghana’s foreign policy on these states due to its membership of ECOWAS

The minority again raised concerns of non-adherence to due process.

The Minority raised concern of a possible breach of the Presidential Office Act of 1993 which provides that persons be appointed to the office of the President subject to the approval of the council of state.

The caucus raised these issues due to what they term as a lack of recourse to due process as the letter did not refer these appointments to the Council of state hence are asking for due process to be adhered to.
