BAGBIN RENDER APPOLOGY TO ZENATOR
The Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has rendered an unqualified apology to Dr. Zenator Agyenang Rawlings over the derogatory statement made against her on the floor of Parliament by an unanimous member from the Minority Side.
Following petition received from the Anlo Traditional Council and the Greater Accra Volta Diaspora cause insisting that the Speaker calls out the person for sanctioning.
“On 4th February this year, an Hon Member of the August House was subjected to an unwarranted, unjustified, and deeply offensive reckless remark, of being referred to as, for want of a better way to convey the remark, the "daughter of a murderer." I apologize for having to even repeat it! “Bagbin worriedly said
He added that, is regrettable that in the course of parliamentary proceedings
In light of this incident, I extend my deepest apologies to Hon Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Klottey Korley, H. E. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, the former First Lady of Ghana and widow of our late illustrious President, the family, the Chiefs and all the good people of Anlo Dukor, and Anloland. No one serving their country should have to endure such indignity.
BACKGROUND
On Tuesday, 4th February 2025, Hon Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, and daughter of the father of the Fourth Republican Constitution, our late former President, Jerry John Rawlings (may his soul rest in perfect peace), sought recognition from the Speaker to contribute to the proceedings on the floor of Parliament Media footage available indicates that during this attempt to speak, the unsavoury remark was uttered off-microphone from a seat of the Minority Side of the House, in reference to the Hon Member.
Bagbin condemned the conduct and described it as dishonourable behavior and unbefitting of a Member of Parliament. He advised members to be circumspect in their actions on the floor and even in Parliament.
Frank Annor Dompreh the MP for Nsawam Adoagyire on his feet referred the Speaker to the incident which happened between him and Mad. Emefa Hardcastle the Acting CEO of Petroleum Commission at the vetting committee and draw the Speaker’s attention to ensure the right is done. He added that it has been over three weeks since the Lady came to disrespect him therefore he is urging the speaker to yield to his Promise and call the two of them to settle the issue.
He further stated that, the MP for Tamale Central Muntala Mohammed on the same day when the unfortunate statement was made about Hon Zenator also disrespected the Late JB Danquah when making his point on a statement made.
Mahama Ayariga the Majority Leader condemned the equalization been made by Annor Dompreh and stated that every statement made by Hon. Muntala was made on record and he made reference to every point he made. Ayariga said it is his right as an MP to comment on statement and he rightly did so therefore Muntala owned up for his words. Ayariga dared the person who disrespected the Late Former President to own up for his words if he is not a coward. He then thank the Speaker for apologizing on their behalf.
