Minority Caucus Warns Against “Operational Paralysis” of OSP After Court Ruling The Minority Caucus in Parliament has cautioned against what it describes as an attempt to “operationally paralyze” the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) following a recent High Court ruling. Speaking to the press, Alhassan Tampuli Sulemana, Member of Parliament for Gushegu and Deputy Ranking Member on the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, strongly opposed the decision, which questions the OSP’s independent prosecutorial authority. Hon. Sulemana challenged the legal basis of the ruling, which directs the Attorney General's Department to take over cases initiated by the OSP. He argued that the decision is inappropriate, particularly as similar matters are currently before the Supreme Court of Ghana. He described the move as a “judicial rascality,” stressing that a lower court should not interfere in issues pending before the country’s highest court. The Minority reaffirmed

Minority Caucus Demands Full Independence for OSP, Challenges High Court Ruling The Minority Caucus in Parliament, led by Alhassan Tampuli Sulemana, has called for the protection of the autonomy of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), describing a recent High Court ruling as a threat to its independence. Addressing the media in Parliament, Hon. Sulemana, who serves as Deputy Ranking Member on the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee, expressed concern over a decision directing the Attorney General's Department to take over prosecutions initiated by the OSP. Hon. Sulemana questioned the basis of the ruling, arguing that a lower court should not interfere in matters already pending before the Supreme Court of Ghana. “Can a subordinate court preempt the highest court of the land when a similar matter is already before it?” he asked, describing the decision as inappropriate and legally questionable. The Minority maintained that, Act 959, which established the OSP, remains

Dawenya Police Accused of Endangering Lives, Forcing Illegal Towing Fee A group of passengers, including journalists, have accused officers of the Dawenya Divisional Police Command of endangering lives and engaging in extortion after a commercial minibus was forcibly towed with occupants still on board. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, March 28, 2026, involved a minibus travelling from Accra to Akatsi South. *Minority in Parliament to drag Ibrahim Mahama before CHRAJ* The minority has declared its intention to submit a petition to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), seeking an investigation into businessman Ibrahim Mahama and his company, Engineers & Planners. This move pertains to their alleged involvement in the acquisition of the Damang Mine, as well as the utilisation of his private jet by former President John Dramani Mahama. The caucus expressed concerns regarding purported irregularities and potential breaches of the constitution during the selection process for an investor for the Damang Mine. According to Kwaku Ampratuwm-Sarpong, the procedure lacked transparency and fairness, thereby casting doubt on the validity of the outcome. He contended that the entire process appeared predetermined, rather than being conducted through a genuinely competitive and merit-based selection system. “The minority will not accept the government characterisation o

*Parliament’s Women’s Caucus to ‘name and shame’ men contesting female MPs* The Chairperson of the Women’s Caucus in Parliament, Comfort Doyoe, has warned that men who contest female candidates in the 2028 general elections risk being publicly “named and shamed.” Her remarks come amid growing concern over Ghana’s low ranking in women’s political representation, with the country currently placed 149th out of 188 nations globally. Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, March 25, Doyoe called on stakeholders and authorities to take deliberate steps to promote women’s empowerment and increase female participation in governance. “Mr Speaker, all men who will contest women in this Parliament in the next election, we will name and shame them because we need to protect them,” she said. The minister highlighted the Vegetable Development Project, launched in June/July last year, which focuses on three key areas: seed, irrigation, and market development.
