Old Tafo MP Questions Accuracy of Government’s Budget for Sanitary Pad Distribution The Member of Parliament for Old Tafo Constituency, Hon. Vincent Ekow Assafuah, has raised serious concerns about inconsistencies in the government’s 2025 and 2026 budget allocations for menstrual hygiene and sanitary pad distribution. Addressing the media at a press conference on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, Mr Assafuah explained that parliament had agreed to allocate specific days for debating on the 2026 Economic and Business Policy Budget. When it was his turn to contribute to the debate, he began by addressing the government’s promise to support menstrual hygiene by providing sanitary pads to young girls to help improve school attendance. Asutifi South MP Calls for Amendment of Minerals Acts to Ensure Fair Royalty Rates The Member of Parliament for Asutifi South, Hon. Collins Dauda, has commented on issues relating to Ghana’s minerals and mining laws. Speaking to the media, Hon. Dauda explained that Parliament passed the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703), which was later amended. According to him, Section 25 of Act 703 clearly outlines the royalty rates for mineral production, setting the rate between 3% and 6%. He noted that the law states: “A holder of a mining lease, restricted mining lease, or small-scale mining lease shall pay royalty as prescribed, in respect of minerals obtained from mining operations, to the Republic. The royalty rate shall not be less than 3% and not more than 6% of the total revenue from minerals obtained by the holder.” He added that this provision was amended in 2010. Hon. Minority Demands Transparency Over GH¢13.1bn Aircraft Procurement — Jinapor The Member of Parliament for Damongo, Hon. Samuel Abdulai Jinapor, has raised concerns over the government’s multi-year expenditure commitment for the purchase of four helicopters and two presidential jets. Addressing the media, Hon. Jinapor explained that, according to page 202, Appendix 40 of the national budget presented to Parliament by the Finance Minister, the government is programmed to spend GH¢3,596,866,533 in the current year. When the total four-year expenditure for the aircraft procurement is calculated, it amounts to GH¢13,152,772,333. He noted that converting this figure at an exchange rate of GH¢11 to the dollar yields approximately US$1,195,642,939.
